The Open Group FACE™ & SOSA™ Consortia to Hold First Joint Exposition and TIM in Display of Modular Open Systems Architecture Collaboration

Companies to demonstrate FACE certified products and products aligned to the SOSA Technical Standard

San Francisco, CA – July 25, 2019 – The Open Group FACE™ (Future Airborne Capability Environment) and SOSA™ (Sensor Open Standards Architecture) Consortia are pleased to announce their first joint Exposition and Technical Interchange Meeting (TIM). The FACE & SOSA Exposition & TIM, hosted by the U.S. Air Force and sponsored by Green Hills Software, will be held on September 17, 2019 at the Dayton Convention Center in Dayton, Ohio. Both the FACE and SOSA standards efforts enable Modular Open Systems Approaches (MOSA) specified by the U.S. Department of Defense for both new systems development and modification of existing systems.

This event follows the successful U.S. Army FACE TIM & Expo held in September 2018, and the February 2019 release of conformance testing suite for the FACE 3.0 Technical Standard, a standard of The Open Group. It is another key milestone in the momentum of major organizations achieving FACE conformance and the procurement pull from the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Army, and U.S. Navy over the past several years. The event in Dayton presents another opportunity for FACE Consortium and the first for SOSA Consortium Members to showcase their efforts toward developing FACE and SOSA applications for the services’ new war-fighting capabilities.

“The Air Force Life Cycle Management Center is honored to welcome the first joint FACE & SOSA Expo and TIM this September,” said Rich Kutter, SES, Air Force Senior Leader for Embedded Systems and Software.  “Both the FACE Technical Standard and the SOSA draft Technical Standard, along with their business practices and ecosystems, are essential components of Air Force strategy to increase agility, flexibility, and affordability in the warfighting capabilities we provide. This event is an excellent opportunity to see how well all the services are collaborating with industry to advance open systems approaches for aviation critical software and sensor systems.”

Attendees will see over 50 exhibits demonstrating FACE certified products and products aligned to the FACE and SOSA Technical Standards.  They will hear presentations from industry experts, academia, and government including technical papers on using those technical standards and business practices.

The FACE Consortium is a government and industry partnership formed to define an open avionics environment for all military airborne platform types. It has since grown into an aviation-focused professional group made up of industry suppliers, customers, and users. It provides a vendor-neutral forum for industry and government to work together to develop and consolidate the open standards, best practices, guidance documents, and business strategy.  These objectives promote acquisition of affordable software systems, innovation, rapid integration of portable capabilities across global defense programs, and higher efficiency to deploy capabilities. The

SOSA Consortium empowers government and industry to collaboratively develop open standards and best practices to accelerate the deployment of affordable, agile, and composable sensor systems.

Green Hills Software is the sponsor for the Joint FACE & SOSA Expo & TIM as well as the subsequent consortia meetings. As a Principal Member of the FACE Consortium and active contributor to the FACE Technical Standard, Green Hills Software will be showcasing partner solutions that are integrated with their INTEGRITY-178® tuMP™ real-time operating system (RTOS). Designed specifically to overcome challenges such as multicore interference when using multicore processors for integrated modular avionics (IMA), INTEGRITY-178 tuMP is to date the only RTOS certified conformant to the latest version of the FACE Technical Standard, edition 3.0.
