How long have you been involved with The Open Group SOSA™ Consortium?

    Since January 2018

What do you do, and how long have you been doing it?

I have worked on the Security Subcommittee since its inception. From 2018 to the end of 2019 I participated as a member of the subcommittee. In 2020 and 2021 I served as a co-lead of the subcommittee. In 2022 I was asked to serve as the subcommittee lead. I have worked on things like secure startup, data-in-transit security, and remote attestation.

Why did your organization become a Member of The Open Group SOSA Consortium and what does/will your involvement look like?

As a non-profit, our organization wanted to get involved in the SOSA Consortium to give back to the communities we work with.

How has/will membership in The Open Group SOSA Consortium benefit you, your organization, and the industry at large?

Our membership in the SOSA Consortium helps me personally to ensure the work I do outside of the consortium has real world needs behind it. For our organization, membership in the consortium benefits us by helping us align our experience and technical expertise with the directions our customer base is headed in. Our participation benefits the industry at large through our work on security of sensor systems so that we can deal with advanced threats and ensure mission success for users of the SOSA Technical Standard.

What contributions do you hope to bring to The Open Group SOSA Consortium?

I hope to ensure that programs that leverage the technical standard can build secure systems which is crucial to the kinds of battles we expect to face in the future.

Why is it important for other organizations to join The Open Group SOSA Consortium?

Without a broad and diverse set of opinions and expertise, it will be hard to develop a technical standard that can meet the varied needs that SOSA is trying to fulfil. I feel this is especially true in security as across programs, platforms, and systems there are broad differences in needs and requirements. We want to build a technical standard and a security strategy that is adaptable and useful across these needs. Doing so in isolation is impossible.

    What are your hobbies?

I love spending time with my family and being outdoors. The Dayton, Ohio area has many places to hike, camp, and bike, which I enjoy. I also really enjoy playing golf as it is a great way to enjoy the outdoors.
