How long have you been involved with The Open Group?

SPJIMR has been a member of The Open Group since August 2015

What do you do, and how long have you been doing it?

I am Associate Professor in the Information Management (IM) Area at SPJIMR. I have been teaching since the last 20 years – varied and multiple courses as per industry requirements to ensure that our students get the latest and best in the curriculum.

Why did your organization become a Member of The INITIATE Work Group and what does/will your involvement look like?

We were first introduced to The Open Group and TOGAF in a workshop on EA organized by Computer Society of India in 2014. Some of us had attended this workshop to learn more about Enterprise Architecture as, in on our annual curriculum review, we were advised to include Enterprise Architecture (EA) in the courses for the IM specialization students at SPJIMR. We would like to be involved in the evolution of enterprise architecture for digital transformations.

How has/will membership in The Open Group benefit you, your organization, and the industry at large?

It has benefitted me directly in my teaching when introducing TOGAF as an industry standard EA framework. We use the study material from The Open Group study sources. This helps our students to prepare for the course we teach as well as TOGAF certifications they apply for.

The Open Group facilitates easy access to the TOGAF Foundation certifications examinations. This helps our interested students in their recruitment process.

I’m hopeful that over time, our membership in The Open Group would benefit the industry via our contributions to the forums, and also via the value we provide to our students through applied case studies of architecture best practices.

What contributions do you hope to bring to The Open Group?

I look forward to participating in the forum activities. I am currently a member of the Government EA workgroup and have helped in creation of a guide for ‘Building Digital Transformation Capabilities in Least Income Resource Settings’. I am also happy to be a member of India Academic Initiative in Architecture (INITIATE ) Work Group.

Why is it important for other organizations to join The Open Group?

Working in organizations like The Open Group expands one’s horizon and assists the organization in thinking more broadly about the industry, the current standards and the way ahead in technology and business. It enhances peer learning and builds bridges between industry and academia.
