The Open Group Trusted Technology Forum (OTTF)
Monday, April 25
Objective of Meeting
The group was to review and revise the OTTF roadmap for 2016-2017 and the outreach strategy for 2016. The goal was to revisit the major OTTF deliverables and the outreach strategy for each – and refine or assign priorities, actions, and owners as appropriate.
Summary
The group reviewed the Roadmap and the OTTF focus areas. (The OTTF Roadmap for 2016-2017 can be found here.)
There was review and refinement of the Outreach Strategy for the major OTTF focus areas, which resulted in some revisions and actions. There was also discussion on the messaging/talking points and target constituents for the outreach activities. The content of the strategy document was revised slightly; much of the discussion was on priorities and the sequencing for the planned activities.
The resultant work documents will be distributed to the OTTF Steering Committee and the Global Outreach and Standards Harmonization (GOSH) Workstream.
Monday afternoon had two separate sessions:
- Revisions to the Wikipedia article: The members reviewed the then current draft of the article from Dan Reddy, a Co-Chair of The GOSH Workstream, which was revised to reduce the size and any marketing/"peacocking" threads that had slipped into the article. It will be distributed to the GOSH Workstream for final input prior to submitting to Wikipedia.
- Open Track session: The presentation at the Open Track session by Sally Long at the London Conference was a recap of a recent recorded webinar which can be found at: www.opengroup.org/bookstore/catalog/d157.htm.
The subject of the webinar is as follows:
In September 2015, ISO/IEC approved the Open Trusted Technology Provider™ Standard (O-TTPS), a standard of The Open Group, as ISO/IEC 20243:2015. The standard reduces the possibility of damage by mitigating the risk of tainted and counterfeit parts and products. This webinar shows how the standard can be leveraged by:
- Customers, to address product integrity and supply chain risk in their operating environments
- Technology providers, in dealing with their global technology partners and providers including their OEMs, hardware and software component suppliers, product integrators, value-add distributors, and resellers
- Both customers and technology providers, to encourage their global technology partners to adopt the best practices in the standard and to explore the vendor-neutral third-party O-TTPS certification/accreditation program that exists today
Tuesday, April 26
Objective of Meeting
There were two major objectives for Tuesday as follows:
- The members were to review, discuss, revise, and agree on a proposal for a new tier for the O-TTPS Accreditation Program.
- The members were to agree on recommendations to any Change Requests (CRs) that were submitted to the O-TTPS Assessment Procedures currently in Company Review.
Summary
There was a good deal of candid and important discussion that took place on what type of additional accreditation tier would be most valuable for the current O-TTPS Accreditation Program. Sally Long, the Director of the Forum, provided a sanitized (non-attribution) overview of the 1-1 interviews that were conducted last month with each of the members to capture their individual views on the subject. Following the recap of the interviews, there was some excellent discussion on customer views and the rationale behind their thinking, all of which resulted in a final draft proposal. The discussion was summarized in more detail for internal distribution to the Forum and will be sent to the Framework Workstream and the Steering Committee for further discussion and agreement.
Although this was one of the planned activities, there were no Change Requests (CRs) to the ISO PAS version of the Assessment Procedures, which is currently in Company Review. However, the group did re-visit the Assessment Procedures to assure that they sufficiently identify requirements that are specifically associated with value-add resellers and distributors.
Wednesday, April 27
Objective of Meeting
The objective for Wednesday was to review and revise the Draft Manager’s Guide, on which the Framework Workstream participants had been working.
Summary
There was a good deal of discussion about how extensive the Guide should be, any additional topics that should be covered, and how much guidance should actually be included, particularly now that we are considering a second tier in the Accreditation Program.
The group began to wordsmith the document to tighten up the language and make it more consistent in tone and presentation.
The revised document will be distributed to the Framework Workstream for further review and revisions.
