London 2016: Proceedings - Open Platform 3.0 Forum

Open Platform 3.0™ Forum Members' Meeting

Objective of Meeting

The Open Group Open Platform 3.0 Forum focuses on new and emerging technology trends converging with each other and leading to new business models and system designs. These trends currently include:

  • Mobility
  • Social networks and social enterprise
  • Big data analytics
  • Cloud computing
  • The Internet of Things (networked sensors and controls)

Other technologies may be taken on board as the Platform develops.

These convergent forces – united by the growing consumerization of technology and the resulting evolution in user behavior – offer the potential to create new business models and system designs. However, they also pose architectural issues and structural considerations that must be addressed for businesses to benefit.

The Forum advances The Open Group vision of Boundaryless Information Flow™ by helping organizations take advantage of the convergence of these modern technologies.

The Forum is developing a standard for digital platforms that will help organizations take advantage of the convergence of modern technologies, and also has work groups and projects in specific areas related to the Platform standard.

The objective of the meeting was to progress the work of the Forum, specifically in the areas of:

  • Security aspects (in a joint meeting with the Security Forum)
  • Capabilities of platforms conforming to the digital platform interoperability standard
  • Forward planning

Summary

The joint session with the Security Forum discussed:

  • A FAIR analysis of the Open Platform 3.0 Snapshot
  • Identification of areas of the digital platform interoperability standard where the Security Forum should provide input

The Security Forum has introduced the Open FAIR Body of Knowledge to support Factor Analysis of Information Risk (FAIR). It is undertaking a FAIR analysis of the latest Snapshot of the forthcoming Open Platform 3.0 standard. The discussion focused on the priorities for that analysis, and the tools to be used.

The discussion on capabilities addressed possible additions to the capabilities described in the Open Platform 3.0 Snapshot, and in particular on capabilities related to safety.

The discussion on forward planning identified the Next Steps listed below.

Outputs

The detailed minutes of the meeting are available to Forum members.

Next Steps
