    Brief Bio: Gregory Powers is Market Lead for Gore’s Aerospace & Defense group. He has spent the majority of his career addressing rugged electro-mechanical packaging applications.  He is presently the SOSA Electrical Mechanical Subcommittee Lead and is also leading the VITA Study Group 85.105 detailing rugged, open architecture, impedance matched connectors. Greg holds 2 patents in fiber optic devices, attended Syracuse University, where he received a BSME, as well as completing a variety of advanced studies at Penn State University. He presently resides in Washington state.

    How long have you been involved with The Open Group SOSA™ Consortium? Gore joined in October 2017

    What do you do, and how long have you been doing it? Gore develops and manufactures high performance, high reliability copper wire and cable, as well as fiber optic cable for data and power connectivity.

    Why did your organization become a Member of The Open Group SOSA Consortium and what does/will your involvement look like? Gore is a member of multiple Aerospace & Defense standards and associations.  Much of our business is focused within Defense applications, including C5ISR/EW, vehicle integration and systems integration lab enablement.  Gore joined SOSA to contribute to the standardization of connectivity, with personnel (Greg Powers & Herb Van Deusen) presently acting as Lead & Co-Lead of the Electrical Mechanical Subcommittee.

    How has/will membership in The Open Group SOSA Consortium benefit you, your organization, and the industry at large? Membership provides the benefits of a focused industry network, the ability to consider supply of open architecture solutions and the ability to shepherd the consortium toward implementation of high performance, high performance, optimally “fit for use” connectivity solutions.

    What contributions do you hope to bring to The Open Group SOSA Consortium? Oversight on high performance, high reliability connectivity solutions, and the inclusion of those solutions into the base specification and reference implementation guide.

    Why is it important for other organizations to join The Open Group SOSA Consortium? 1. To understand SOSA, to contribute their subject matter expertise and effect the evolution of SOSA for their company, the industry and betterment of western defense. 2. To network within the SOSA community and more effectively pursue SOSA related requirements.
