Q: How long have you been involved with The Open Group?

Less than one year

Q. What do you do, and how long have you been doing it? 

We develop data management platforms for corporate customers and National Data Repositories in the oil and gas industry. We have many on-premises solutions, and a few cloud-based data platforms.

Q: Why did your organization become a member of The Open Group Open Subsurface Data Universe Forum and what does your involvement look like?  

We have joined the OSDU Forum in order to better understand what will be required for our software to comply with this interesting standard.

Q: How has membership in The Open Group benefited you, your organization and the industry at large?

KADME has been a member for a short while only, and we need to become more active in the work groups. But we can see already how we could benefit from the feedback of many great players in this industry. 

Q: What contributions do you hope to bring to The Open Group?

We have people in the organization that has been working in this industry for a long time, and KADME has delivered systems to companies in many parts of the world. We hope to be able to participate in this initiative by bringing in the practicalities needed by the many oil companies around the world that are not yet part of The Open Group.

Q: Why is it important for other organizations to join The Open Group?

Joining The Open Group is important for both suppliers and end-users, as it allows them to align their business objectives via the technology standards. The importance of having open systems architectures is a big advantage for most smaller and medium supplier companies, in the development of their technologies.

Gianluca Monachese is the founder of KADME and now serves as Director of Business Development. A geologist by background, he was granted a Master of Science in Computing for Geosciences at the British Geological Survey and the Nottingham Trent University. He has since worked in information management in the upstream sector, with companies like Schlumberger, IBM, PGS, and Landmark before starting KADME in 2002.
